Google Maps will update the map with a round shape not like it used to be flat
Google introduced its updates to Google Maps. At present, a world map will appear as a globe and no longer be displayed with a flat surface. This is a change that makes it possible to display the Earth more accurately.
On Friday, August 3, 2018, the company announced the change of "Globe Mode" via cuitan on its official Twitter page, "With Globe 3D mode in the desktop version of Google Maps, Greenland's projections are no longer as big as Africa." With the announcement, changes are only available on the desktop and the map is still in the flat form in the mobile version application
Previously, Google Maps used the Mercator projection, which projected the planet to a flat surface. The flat projection results make it easier for maps to be printed and most have been standardized. However, this presents information that deviates from Earth.

Objects around the equator have a scale relative to each other, while objects closer to the poles and farther from the equator are larger than they actually are. Thus, the size of Greenland on the Mercator map appears to be larger than Africa, when in fact, Africa is 14 times larger.
Reporting from The Verge, a Google employee explained in 2009 that the company used the Mercator map because it helped keep the street corner.
"The first launch of Maps doesn't actually use Mercator, and the streets in high latitude places like Stockholm aren't at the right angle on the map as they are in reality."
This "Globe Mode" update is only available on the desktop and works in all major browsers, including Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
